Canada to ban exports of quantum computers, equipment to Russia

WASHINGTON, Jun 28 (PRIME) – Canada will ban exports of some cutting-edge technologies, including quantum computers and industrial equipment to Russia, and imports of some gold goods from Russia as part of additional sanctions, the office of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said in a statement late on Monday.

“Canada will also take additional and immediate measures to ban the export of certain advanced technologies that could improve Russia’s domestic defense manufacturing capability, including quantum computers and advanced manufacturing equipment, associated components, materials, software, and technology,” the statement read.

It will ban imports of some gold goods from Russia in coordination with the U.S., U.K., and Japan.

Canada also blacklisted six Russians and 46 companies linked to the Russian defense sector, 15 Ukrainians that supported Russia’s operation in the country, and 13 government and defense officials as well as two legal entities in Belarus.
